As I was cruising various blogs, as bloggers do, I stumbled upon a gem that caught my eye. Ozge Karaoglu‘s most recent blog entitled Once Upon a Tool, became the cause of 30 minutes wasted. She presents some valuable tools for the modern teacher, namely Piclits. This web tool while entertaining is educational! As a future teacher, when I find something that possesses both of those words I get very excited. It gives students a random picture in which they are to use words from a key to describe the picture. The words are divided into various categories, such as nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs. These categories may be a great device when teaching students about them. For older kids there is a ‘freestyle’ option in which students simply type out their sentence or story. The pictures range anywhere from a pile of shoes to a frog hanging off of a tree. At any rate, this interactive web tool may be enough to get creative juices pumping while students practice their English. If this tool can entertain me for a good half-hour I can’t imagine what it would do for our students!
